Club
Nights at Esporta Dorset
There
are currently three club nights, all of which are for members only.
All
club nights are from 8pm - 10pm, and there are 4 courts available (except on match nights, when only 2 courts are free). No advance booking is
necessary, simply turn up and pay your 50p contribution towards the feather
shuttles. A board system is in use to ensure that every one gets a fair number
of games.
Monday
night is for beginners and improvers, and the more experienced members help to organise games and offer
advice. They are looking to build up the numbers, so please come along and try
out the game!
Tuesday
night is for improvers and club players, and this night is always very
popular. Players are expected to have a reasonable range of
shots.
Friday
night is for club standard players to have team practice.
All the nights are very sociable between games and the
evenings are usually rounded
off with a dip in the pool and a drink and a chat in the bar.
A certain number of social events and tournaments take place
throughout the year and these are posted on the notice board at courtside.
This notice board also carries details of all other
activities including team details, match results, and coaching schedules.

Forum News
Steve
Bennett, General Manager, announced the closure of the Poole Members'
Forum in March '03. It will be replaced by a 6 monthly 'Founder Members'
evening, where the club will invite the 900 current members who joined in the
first year of the club opening to give their feedback.
In
a letter to the Forum members, Steve said:
"On the evening there will be a free buffet and drinks, and each
department will have an area set up where members can approach them to discuss
relevant issues. Numbers will be limited, and a booking system will be
operated at Reception. The meeting is designed to be formal and hopefully
produce some positive feedback.
Although I found the forums to be extremely beneficial, I feel this would be
an excellent way to communicate with members and in turn improve the club. It
is truly only through feedback from members that we can continue to make
Esporta Dorset a great club"
The
date of the meeting has not yet been announced.

Handicap Badminton Tournament
Wednesday 13
December 2001
The very first tournament of its kind at Esporta was for Mens and Ladies
doubles. In total 15 pairs were entered-- Mens 'A' (6 pairs) , Mens 'B'
(5 pairs) and one group of 4 pairs for the Ladies event. The results in the
finals were as follows:
Mens 'A' -- Melvin & Leon bt Ian & Tom 15-14, 15-14
Mens 'B' -- Andy & Nick bt John & Rob 15-11
Ladies -Jill & Karen bt Katrina & Lindsey 21-18 , 21-16
The highlight of the evening just had to be the Mens 'A' final which was a
fantastic match of the highest quality between the four youngest players
in the tournament.
Everybody had a wonderful time and thanks to Lindsey & Gary for organising
and running the event.
