Apologies

Steve Bennett discussed the take-over by Duke Street Leisure and talked about the future for Esporta, Steve said he is extremely happy with the new Directors who are very focused on Member first Service and looking after our current members.

Steve asked the members about the new yoga room being too small and whether we should move the Spinning Bikes, but all agreed to leave things as they were for the moment. Steve B is to organise a meeting with yoga instructor and squash players to discuss further.

Steve went through all the re-furbishments that had gone on around the Club i.e.: raised floor, new carpet in Gym, new roof tiles in club, Showers/Ch/Rooms completed, new tiling in Ch/Rooms, improved Music system in Gym, Children’s TV now showing Kid’s programmes, free weights due in soon, resistance equipment now being upholstered, and a few more items to be done in the near future. A large amount of money has been invested in this club to bring it back up to the 1st class level it should be.

Departmental Overviews

FOOD & BEVERAGE

DB said the new menu was priced too high. All members agreed. Alex has taken on board and prices have now been reduced but Esporta are still putting pressure on Restaurant associates to reduce further.

WB Tried to purchase a large glass (250ml) wine, only now have 175ml? And prices on alcohol have increase significantly. Alex now has large glasses available and is in the process of comparing prices with pubs/clubs in the area.

Steve B told everyone that Restaurant Associates would be offering more consistency in food and service. WB Some tables not laid out – others were. AB to decide whether to lay cutlery or not at Adult Only tables.

Diana, dirty glass given out with lipstick on – AB have a chat to staff about this.

Diana, thought the price of the bottled water was still too high, even though there had been a decrease of 10p per bottle. AB to look into again.

WB suggested the next area that needs attention is the bar/Adults lounge. Steve B agreed and said this area is due for re-furbishment.

WB Still seeing adults going into Adult Lounge without showering. Steve B acknowledged this and said it is hard to police this area.

Steve asked the members if we should leave the "Sweet" machines in the F & B children’s area of the bar or have them removed. All agreed to keep the machines.

FITNESS,AEROBICS & POOL

John Algrove has asked when will the bikes go into Studio 2? And has the contract staff been made aware of this? Steve B said this area is still under discussion but the Forum agreed everything to stay as it is for now.

Music was requested in the new Toning Suite. Steve B to look at obtaining a cassette recorder.

Most members said that the spinning is too loud for other members using the Gym /Squash Courts/ etc. SB and Fran to try and keep to a happy medium. The Forum agreed that due to the popularity of spinning it is also important to ensure music is loud enough to motivate the class and to keep the majority of members happy.

WB Asked if we could purchase a leg extension/Dip machine? FB to look at obtaining a quote.

WB Treadmills – couldn’t hear some of the channels properly. FB to check all of them.

IB Are the Gym machines staying where they are now? FB No, they will be moved within the next day or so when the new free weights arrive.

IB The speaker nearest the middle is much too loud, no-one uses the equipment around that speaker. FB As the equipment is to be moved, this shouldn’t be the case , but if ever the music is too loud – please request for it to be turned down.

WB Ab Cradles removed from Gym, why? FB Advised by the Fitness Industry that they can damage you, so we removed them, we have to trust the experts on this matter.

All members agreed that they are unsure how to use the sit-up balls. FB Agreed that more help/advice would be needed.

WB Requested Step Plates? Steve B and FB to look into this and obtain a quote.

Aerobics

John A Enquired as to why a Corridor was put in the old Tanning Room, as it is now a lot smaller and will be downsizing for the yoga classes? Steve B said the Health & Safety Fire Officer insisted a corridor was there.

SB informed members about the "Self Defence" course that was running again in November and also a "Fighting Fit" course as seen on Sky TV.

Diana said the poster/course was not displayed/promoted very well.

SB Tried as much as possible but will display a larger poster for the next course, however it is difficult to promote everything that is going on in the club.

WR suggested promoting the Self-Defence course in the Studio’s. SB agreed this was a good idea.

JO suggested putting the special Events/promotions/courses onto the telephone system whilst members are waiting. Steve B to look into this.

WR Although the floor is now ok in the Studio, the mirrors are still dirty. Steve B to bring this up with the cleaners.

Pool/Jacuzzi/Steam Room

JA Has asked us to analyse what the cost would be to have a poolside presence and advise at next meeting, instead of using the alarm button if kids causing problem in pool. Steve B has costed and put forward to the new board and try to get approval for January 03 budget. We have also now got a Lifeguard on every week day from: Monday still under discussion, 4.30-6.30 Tues, 4-6 Wed, 2-6 Thurs, 4-6 Friday This is the peak time when rules need enforcing.

Diana Noticed a tide mark on pool (inside pool). C.C This area is cleaned every week, has just been cleaned and will keep on top of it.

IB Sauna slats broken on floor mat. C.C to check this out and repair.

Diana Jacuzzi seemed to have too much chlorine? C.C The chlorine levels are checked every 3 hours due to Health & Hygiene regulations and have to be kept at a fairly high level, but the fan above the Jacuzzi is in need of repair and I will sort this out.

IB Please could we have a water dispenser on poolside please. Steve B to request in Capex January 2003.

All members discussed shower and some members not using them. Diana – Could we have instructions on "Dial" showing which way to turn to hot or cold? C.C to look into this.

Steve B Added that he would produce a poster etc.. as to "Why Members should shower before entering pool".

CC to look into steam room being topped up and essence added late afternoon.

Diana suggested extra lane notices at the children’s end of the pool. Steve B to look into the feasibility if this.

IB Asked for a "Pool Temperature" display on the pool wall. Steve B agreed this was a good idea and with Chris would look into this.

HEALTH & BEAUTY

Diana , Went to Hairdressers, stood for 10 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge me, no one did. Steve B to pick this up with hairdresser.

Diana, Telephones are still on answer machine at 9.00AM. Steve B to pick this up with Spa Reception

TENNIS & BADMINTON/SQUASH

Steve to pick up with Steve Barker regarding the £5.00 charge for Junior players, mentioned in the last minutes.

John A and DB asked when the Tennis nets are being replaced.? Steve B/JO 10 nets gone through for authorisation, Hope to obtain these in the near future.

John A would like to know why they have to pay for the Leagues? The costs of the Leagues pays for prizes more than 5/6 times over? Was told originally it was to cover the costs of the LTA. Why should the League players pay? Steve B, The cost involved not only in LTA but also the staff member who organised it, obviously there is a profit to Esporta which will be very difficult to remove from the budget.

DB and John A , Social events organised by the club please, for Tournaments with Tea and coffee ect.. Once every couple of months. Steve B to look into this with JO/AB Hopefully could tie in with Social Nights?

John A, also wants to know who pays for Squash during Tennis Match – as required? Steve B. The club will pay for the cost of squash as and when required during Tennis Matches.

DB Tennis members seen an improvement, generally happy with the club and the re-furbishments.

DB Again mentioned the use of floodlighting please, Steve hoping to add to next Capex list.
