Poole and District MINUTES OF
A.G.M. HELD ON 17th MAY 2001 Proposals Present:
Apologies received from:
The AGM was opened by Sue Barrett and a roll call of clubs present was made. Only one Club was absent Littledown Sports. Minutes of the Last General Meeting It was asked if last year’s Minutes were required to be read out and as some Clubs had not received a copy, it was decided to read out a copy of the Minutes. It was proposed by Peter Clough that the minutes were a true representation of last year’s AGM and seconded by Sue Laird. Matters Arising The Chairman asked Roy Carder if all coaches were now on the coaching register. He replied he thought they were, but the register is always a few months out of date. Roy went on to mention about the affiliation. All clubs should affiliate all members whether or not they play in the League. Records in the past have not been checked, but this summer it is hoped to establish a data base which will contain each members details and their affiliation number. Chairman’s Report Two Committee Meetings were held this season. If a Club has more than 2 teams and I team is to be withdrawn from the League it is up to the discretion of the Committee which team remains in the League. The Match Fixtures will be held on 12th July 2001 at 7.30 at Hamworthy Social Club. Men’s Fixtures will be held on 24th July 2001 at 8.00 at Canford Heath Centre. Secretary’s Report Position still vacant. Treasurer’s Report Alison reported that this year, Shields have had to be replaced, otherwise no problems. Subscriptions will stay the same this season. Report accepted by Brenda Fryer seconded by Jenny Fuller. Vice-Chairman’s Report In Gary’s absence Sue gave the report. The Knock Out final was played between Wimborne ‘A’ and David Lloyd Ringwood ‘A’. The score 5/4 to David Lloyd Ringwood. Congratulations to the winners. Disciplinary Matters: 2 matters arose during the season. With any future disciplinary meetings it has been decided to invite 1 member from each Club to attend the hearing. Fixture’s Secretary Report Phil Dove made the plea for all fixtures to be checked before passing over to him. Too many errors are being made. He apologised to any Clubs in Division 6 as they didn’t receive their Fixture’s List. Result’s Secretary Report See attached Results. Social Secretary’s Report Caroline reported last year’s Badminton Dinner & Dance was poorly attended and she hoped now the venue had been changed to the Marsham Court Hotel more people would attend. Dorset Schools Report The report was read out by Brenda Fryer, see attached. Representatives’ Comments No outstanding matters. Election of Officers The following were re-elected to the Committee: -

Any Other Business Tony Lockyer from Canford Heath Pilots asked how many tournaments were played in Dorset during the season. He had received no notification of any tournaments. Sue replied she did not know the exact number held in Dorset, but in this area there was the Wessex Open, Dorset Restricted and Dynamic Duos. Roy Carder added notification of these tournaments were sent out to every Club’s secretary. Roy asked the floor if more tournaments were wanted and with a show of hands only 6 Clubs affirmed. Roy went on to say in the past tournaments were poorly attended and this is why they stopped, but if the interest was there it would be looked at again. Wessex Open will be on 14/10/01. Dorset Restricted will be on 29/9/01 Dynamic Duos will be held between 23 - 26/08/0 1 Confirmation of these dates will be given. The affiliation fee for this season will be £9.05; subject to agreement at the B A of E’s AGM. Tony Lockyer asked Sue if the League results would be handled differently this season. He understood it had been agreed for him to receive a photostat copy of each League result and with this he could maintain an up todate League Results table on the web site ran by Steve Barker at Esporta. Sue replied updates to the results will be made every two weeks and those results sent to both the web site ran by Steve Barker and the web site for Dorset Badminton. Tony Lockyer was unhappy with this as he felt he could offer a more up todate version. The matter was decided on a show of hands if Clubs required a more up todate version. It was decided the system in place was sufficient. Summer Clubs
Anyone who would like one of the old shields to contact Jim or Sue. Sue brought the meeting to a close at 8.10. INCOME AND EXPENDITURE ACCOUNT
BALANCE SHEET
ACCOUNTANTS REPORT TO THE MEMBERS The income and Expenditure Account for the year ended 30 April 2001 and Balance Sheet at that date have been prepared from the books and vouchers of the League and are in accordance therewith. RESULTS SECRETARY REPORT This year saw the demise of another two teams after the season had started which means there are now 60 teams, only thirty-three clubs. If any clubs are going to have to withdraw a team please let Jim or myself know as soon as possible, definitely before the end of June, as next years leagues have to be organised before the fixtures meeting. Promotions and demotions are self-defining this year as one team goes up from Division 1 to Premier and all other changes are two up, two down. As FSRC dropped out of Premier nobody will be demoted from that division. Of course, should any teams drop out, the third placed team may be promoted as well. Needless to say we would be pleased to hear from any clubs who wish to enter another or a new team. This year we really have reached the 21st Century with the results being printed on the Internet. Our thanks go to Sue Abraham, who along with her son Peter, have set up the web site ‘Dorset Badminton’. Also thanks to Steve Barker who has been printing the results on his web site for Dorset Racquet Centre. I hope lots of you have found this a useful way to keep up-to-date with the current positions. Hopefully, next year we will be able to up-date the tables fortnightly. Because the results have been readily available on the net, we have not posted them out so regularly, also Jim was unable to send out the magazine as hoped, due in part to other commitments but also his computer crashed round about Christmas. Now we have an up and running system for getting the results to you, all we need is your co-operation in making sure I get them on time. By on time I mean as soon as the game is played, within a week is not unreasonable, posted straight after the match is even better! Last year we said that rules 5.9.2 and 5.9.3 would be enforced - there are a lot of teams out there who would have a very large negative score if I had done it. Maybe next year - be warned Also rearranged matches, PLEASE let me know. How many times have I made these pleas? Whilst on the subject of requests. We are finding it difficult when games are conceded to decide which team has won the game. Please make it clear to us which side has conceded. The filling out of the result sheet is very important. You will notice that in Division 2 this year the top two teams had the same number of points. I then have to count back all the games played, so it is vital that all scores are in the right place and correct. Well it just remains for me to thank Adrian for his help and support in checking the names and scores and sorting out any problems, and I wish you all an enjoyable summer. DORSET SCHOOLS BADMINTON ASSOCIATION We have come to the end of another season and it seems to have been as busy as ever both for our squad players, our coaches and "our" parents All our squads have had 25 Sunday morning training sessions, plus two special weekend sessions with Peter Bush from the Badminton Cell of Excellence at Bath University. He was ably assisted by Martin Wells on both occasions. Our youngsters have had the opportunity to play in two restricted tournaments at different age groups. For those who have not yet made the team for a match, there was also the opportunity to play in the Non-County Tournament. We in fact held three Non-County tournaments, one each in the North, East and West of Dorset, these being funded by a grant from Awards for All which Sandy will tell you more about. Many of our stars have also competed in ESBA tournaments further afield and in the Nationals Our team players have played matches in the South West League and friendly matches against the other counties in the area. Our U13 team did not lose a match this season and had a successful weekend in Jersey winning on both days. Our U15 team had mixed success this year but many of the U15 team have another year at this age group and will have learned much from their experience this season. The U17s were a little disappointing this season winning only one of their League matches. From this squad a team represented Dorset at the Inter Counties Tournament at the University of Nottingham at Easter, finishing 27th out of the 39 counties represented. The work of the DSBA committee does not finish with the end of the season as we hold our "Open " WESSEX tournaments in April and May. This year sponsorship has been obtained for both events from the Portman Building Society. We start again for next season with our open trials on Sunday 6th July. If you know of a youngster wanting to try out for the county, I can give more details of these trials. Squad training will resume in September. We hope to see the "older" players who are moving out of the squads, continue to represent their county at senior level and after taking part in a Leaders course begin to assist with squad training themselves. We look forward to "knocking into shape" the new generation of players that we hope we will discover at the trials in July. None of this would be possible without the commitment and enthusiasm of our coaches and the support of the children’s parents and the financial assistance provided by the Poole and District Friendly Badminton League. Thank you very much. Brenda Fryer
